How to Make a Wardrobe for Your Barbie Dolls -Easy & Fun DIY

My dolls love fashion. They have so many clothes, it’s ridiculous! I bet your dolls love fashion, too, so I’ve decided to share my Ridiculously Easy Recipe for Creating a DIY Barbie Closet.

Here are the supplies I used, although you can change them around if you don’t have something:

  • MacBook box (I picked this because it’s white and very sturdy, but you can use whatever box you have lying around)
  • White paper
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun (if you’re young, make sure to get an adult’s help because these things get SUPER HOT!)
  • Mirror (I took mine off a jewellery box)
  • Paper clips
  • A chopstick (if you don’t have a chopstick, a pencil should work fine!)
  • Sticky-tape
  • A pen or pencil

As you can see here, my chopstick didn’t quite fit across the box so it couldn’t work as a railing on it’s own.

Luckily, I had a solution! All I did was wrap the chopstick in white paper, sticky-taping it along the way so it would all stay connected.

By bending the sides of the paper, I was able to squish the railing to fit inside the box. I then sticky-taped it to the box, right in the middle (so my dolls can reach their clothes easily).

The next step was to poke holes into the box using scissors. Sounds crazy? You’ll understand why in a minute…

PRO TIP: Make sure you mark where you want the holes! I accidentally did two holes very far away from each other, but luckily my mirror hides them!

You’re then going to want to poke paper clips in the holes, to create hooks for bags. If you don’t have paperclips, you could try a toothpick (just make sure you stick it on really well).

In order to create my coat hangers, I bent paper clips like shown above to hang them on the railings. You can also buy coat hangers from eBay very cheaply.

Finally, use a hot glue gun to attach the mirror, and your ready to fill up your wardrobe with clothes! You can then add whatever decorations you want to the box -perhaps some beads, washi tape, stickers, glitter, pictures of clothes from a catalogue, etc.

I decorated mine with washi tape and stickers from the Etsy store Plan it Beautiful.

If you have multiple boxes, consider making a HUGE closet, with lots of different sections! Perhaps you could put two railings in one box? Or lots of hooks for bags? Or a makeup counter? It’s all up to you!

And here’s something interesting I found…

This’ll be great, because:

a.) This opens up heaps new storylines -for both me and the children, hah!

b.) More dolls = more fashions! My Stacie doll will be able to wear more than two shirts!

c.) Stacie will get more attention! I feel like Stacie often gets left out of things.

Anyway, what do you think? Do you think Mattel is planning to release Stacie’s friends next?

  1. I ABSOLUTELY adore that wardrobe! The only problem is, I don’t really have any clothes in it. It is all on the dolls 24/7. But if I do get around to making a hundred dresses, I’ll be sure to make this wardrobe! 🙂
Also, I really think Mattel will be releasing Stacie’s friends dolls. I really want them to come out, so in a few years time they will start showing up in charity shops with pen marks on them. HURRY UP MATTEL!!!!!!
